ACCESSIBILITY

Boheme Opera NJ presents its main stage productions at the 830-seat Kendall Main Stage Theater on the campus of The College of New Jersey, in Ewing, NJ, and is entering its 10th season there. Kendall is a barrier-free building with facilities and services that support and provide for memorable experiences. Additionally, Boheme performs in the beautiful 325-seat state-of-the-art Mildred & Ernest E. Mayo Concert Hall, located in TCNJ’s Music Building, which also offers ADA compliant amenities.

As a guest producer of a spectacular and comprehensive art form in these two venues, Boheme Opera collaborates with TCNJ’s Center for the Arts, School of the Arts & Communication, providing effective access to individuals with disabilities.

Below are brief descriptions of access support at Kendall Theater and Mayo Concert Hall:

Wheelchair Accessibility

Wheelchair seating is available and recently expanded in both venues. If required, please request this seating option when purchasing your tickets. Companion seats are also available.

Special Needs Campus Shuttle

Disabled parking is available in all parking lots on the TCNJ campus. Boheme Opera provides a special needs shuttle prior and after its main stage and concert opera productions, in partnership with Mercer County’s T.R.A.D.E. Transportation Department. The shuttle pickup point is at the circle behind Trenton Hall off Metzger Drive, transporting those who cannot negotiate the walk to Kendall Theater or Mayo Concert Hall. During inclement weather, disable patrons may wait inside Trenton Hall’s lobby. The shuttle drops off disabled patrons at the front door of Kendall or side door of the Music Building leading to Mayo Concert Hall.  Following performances, the shuttle returns attendees to the Trenton Hall drop-off point.

Hearing Assistance

Kendall Theater and Mayo Concert Hall offer wireless hearing assistive listening devices. Headphones are provided free of charge. Please request hearing assistance information at time of ticket purchases.

Projected English Supertitles

English supertitles are projected in Kendall Main Stage Theater above the stage for audiences to understand the dialogue being sung in a foreign language. The supertitles are prepared digitally and require a high-lumen projector. This important component also helps those who cannot hear either words or music very distinctively. Supertitles are often used for Boheme’s English-sung works as well, to better appreciate the fluidity of a libretto.  Supertitles are prepared and operated by a professional.

Sign-Interpreter

Boheme Opera’s Pre-Curtain Talks have been accompanied by a sign-interpreter who is visible next to the narrator, offering clear and fluid sign-language interpretation as the talk takes place.  Sources for sign-interpreters are American Sign Language Services, Languages Unlimited, and Katzenbach School for the Deaf in Ewing, NJ.

Braille Campus Signage

On all intersections of the TCNJ campus are Braille directional signs.

Large Print Programs

Large print programs are made available for main stage productions.
